Jens,

I just checked and you are right - there is a free online ADC membership. This all doesn't matter though unless we get a maintainer for Mac software into the Xiph team. This person would then sign up and make sure that e.g. XiphQT is always working and available for download from ADC.

If there is somebody out there interested in this, it would be awesome if they could join ogg-dev@xiph.org and mention their interest!

Hmm, I think I once signed up for ADC, for free. But maybe that was a different kind of membership.

"video encoding and uploading for Firefox"

You know what would be needed? A Camera API for browsers, like what can be done now using Flashplayer.

Xiph has created XiphQT, QuickTime components for the Mac. They work for playing back Ogg files on the Mac.

In all of Xiph's continuous tries to set up a relationship with Apple, we haven't even managed to get XiphQT on the download page of external codec plugins for QuickTime.

I just saw they now have an official upload page, but you need to become a member of the Apple Developer Connection. The website for the Developer Connection is currently down - but I also think it is not cheap to participate. So, we'll continue to liaise.

I'm not really sure transcoding is an acceptable solution for content producers.

Why isn't the Xiph.Org Foundation doing work to get Ogg/Theora into products like FCP? And if they are, why aren't they telling anybody about it?
